Samenvatting

Described is the work being carried out by a joint research team on the adaptation of transit to the traffic conditions prevailing in a typical latin american city, Santiago de Chile. Several transit plans have been prepared to run in recoleta and the results of before and after studies will be reported in the paper. The efforts of the study team to adapt the platoon dispersion formulation in transit to cope with the behaviour of buses and other vehicles in this test case will also be described. The paper is relevant to many developing countries and similar adaptations will be required if fixed- time signal coordination is to be employed.
