Samenvatting

The street lighting had since its start in the late 1900-century been an undeveloped area when it comes to implementation of new technologies. The drives in the late decade have been mainly influenced by the introduction of new light sources (lamps). New technologies well known to households such as dimming device, timers and low energy lamps have not entered the street lighting business until quite recently. The possibility to use the power line as a communication bus will make is possible to control and dim the luminaries to save energy. When introduced in a larger scale will also improve the ITS implementation as well as increase the road safety and not at least minimize the maintenance costs for the street light system.
