Samenvatting

A construct of adjustiveness in behaviour is posed and a theory of adjustive behaviour in relation to safe performance is evolved. The human activity of motor vehicle driving is used for illustrative purposes. Adjustiveness in behaviour is viewed as the capacity to mesh abilities, skills and tasks into a meaningful whole, which brings about consistent, successful performance of an activity in all situations and under all conditions. Emphasis is placed on the need for research efforts in the area of driver behaviour and safe performance.
