Samenvatting

The recently published Dutch National Traffic and Transport Plan (NVVP) created an important place for the application of advanced techniques in traffic flow on main roads and the promotion of general improvement in traffic safety. In 2001 a research and activity agenda for Automated Vehicle Guidance was presented. This document was followed in 2002 by a policy paper on Automated Vehicle Guidance which was presented to Parliament. In this document a distinction is made between Advanced Driver Assistance (ADA) systems and Fully Automated Vehicles (FAV). Pilots have been suggested for speeding up the deployment of the high potential areas speed assistance and lane keeping assistance. International processes for co-operation in the field of Speed Assistance have started within ERTICO in the so-called Speed-Alert initiative. This paper outlines a further vision development regarding the Dutch position on Speed Assistance and future related projects.
