Samenvatting

This document summarises the situation about introduction of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in the automotive market. Market products are summarised in terms of functionality, introduction year and market area. Market introduction of ADAS can be considered to start in 1995 with the introduction of Collision Warning systems in the USA market as after-market for trucks and buses based on microwave radar technology. The following step was the introduction of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) systems as optional for cars in Japan and Europe based on lidar or microwave radar. Following functions that are being introduced are Night Vision and Lane Warning, based on infrared and visible light cameras. Recently, new functions have been announced and introduced for pre-crash safety and parking support. The trend for future introductions goes in the direction of integration between multiple sensors and functions and focus on safety aspects. The trend also shows the entrance of the driver support functions into medium size vehicles and involvement of almost all major OEM. The website of the ADASE 2 project with all the products of this project can be found at http://www.ADASE2.net. (Author/publisher)
