Samenvatting

Recently, various kinds of computers for vehicular control as well entertainment devices have been installed in vehicles and connected up with each other to exchange information. The number of access from outside networks has also increased rapidly. Therefore, vehicle gateways have become necessary for the driving safety and privacy of the drivers. Proxy technologies used by campus networks could be used to achieve the functions of vehicle gateways, but different implementations would be necessary because of the special characteristics of the automobile networks. There are three different users in vehicle networks-the automobile manufacturers, the car owners, and the drivers. The policies of the three in networks are different from each other, and methods to solve contentions between them are necessary. This paper introduces a gateway mechanism that solves this problem. The authors discuss the new functions of the vehicle gateways in the second part of the document. The filtering policies of conventional vehicle gateways are fixed; however, those of the proposed new gateways can be flexibly changed depending on the power mode, operation mode, location, purpose of driving and the driver. This gateway mechanism enhances driving safety and protects the driver's privacy.
