Samenvatting

Modern traffic monitoring and control systems usually incorporate some degree of video surveillance. Requirements for full bandwidth CCTV presents a data communication problem in most TI environments, and in the Danish Road Directorates planned TRIM project (TRaffIc management on Motorways) untraditional design measures like wireless ATM technology will be applied. This will ensure simultaneous transfer of as many as 20 near broadcast quality video channels on the trunk connections, along with the traditional detector and VMS data. This paper discusses the pros and cons of ATM technology in TI systems, along with the design features of the TRIM fibre optic road computer communication system incorporating a fully redundant communication network.
