Samenvatting

In this paper, an advanced traffic information transmission system, AMIS (Advanced Mobile Information System) is described. AMIS is the core of UTMS (Universal Traffic Management Systems) which totally manages and controls traffic flow to make it safe and smooth, and utilizes a two-way infrared communication between the infrastructure and vehicles carrying infrared vehicle detectors. Using these functions, AMIS can measure travel time and provide each driver with an optimum route, guaranteeing ease of mobility within the road network. In order to evaluate the validity of this system, a UTMS experiment has been conducted in Yokohama, Japan in June 1994. (A)
