Advanced safety systems enabled by vehicle infrastructure integration (VII).

Samenvatting

The need to reduce motor vehicle crashes is apparent globally. Passive safety systems reduce injuries in crashes, but do not reduce the number of crashes. Autonomous active safety systems are effective in preventing some crashes, but are limited by the sensor data. Wireless communications can enable advanced safety systems that provide superior safety benefits. Low-latency, short-range wireless communications can enable or enhance a numberof crash avoidance applications. The optimistic view is that advanced safety systems enabled by VII will significantly reduce the number of motor vehicle crashes and the related fatalities in the future.
