This book introduces the concept of ATT (Advanced Transport Telematics), IVHS (Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems) and RTI (Road Transport Informatics). Chapters are also provided on the use of ATT for: (1) traffic control; (2) dynamic route guidance; and (3) automatic toll collection. Separate chapters are provided which give greater detail about DRIVE programmes, PROMETHEUS (Program for a European Traffic with Highest Efficiency and Unprecedented Safety), ADVANCE (Advanced Driver and Vehicle Advisory Navigation Concept), RACS (Road-Automobile Communication System) and VICS (Vehicle Information Communication System), and on-board equipment.
