Samenvatting

This document is intended to provide guidance in the development and implementation of local road safety strategies. Designed specifically to help local authorities develop strategies within or alongside Local Transport Plans, the main aim is to reduce casualties, in particular deaths and serious injuries. The key elements of a road safety strategy are discussed. Other aspects considered are local casualty reduction objectives, supported by targets and trajectories, a data-led approach to road safety delivery, partnership working, professional delivery and funding and evaluation. A number of priority themes are identified including pedestrian and cyclist casualties in towns and cities, the protection of children and young people, motorcyclist casualties, casualties on rural roads, poor road user behaviour and illegal and inappropriate speed.
