The purpose of the flight simulator is to provide a safe, readily available and economical means of training air crew in the operation of aircraft. Simulator training is potentially a safe substitute for part of the flight training that would otherwise be done in aircraft at higher cost and with greater risk. Over the years a number of undesirable simulator effects, including simulator sickness, have been reported. The goal of this conference was to examine simulator- induced effects, their operational implications, and their etiology in order to develop ideas for reducing undesired effects.
