Samenvatting

The conclusions from the XXth World Road Congress workshop in Montreal in September 1995 show that it is worthwhile to compare studies on road management with those on airfield pavements. It is important that there is a real exchange of knowledge and expertise between these two related subjects. There are, however, a few key requirements and considerations where it will be useful to adopt separate approaches to design, material specifications and maintenance. The main objectives for the airfield pavement workshop at the Congress are: to compare road and airfields practices; and to consolidate, update and complete the results of the first seminar held in Montreal in 1995. Contributors were invited to distinguish (if possible) the case of heavy duty aircraft trafficked pavement and light aircraft trafficked pavements; and to try to detect needs and demands for airfields in the next millennium.
