Alcohol controls and drink driving : the social context.

This report presents the findings of a study aimed at developing an overall picture of the drink driving elements that comprise the social contextual influence in Australia. Open ended discussions were held with key opinion leaders in the field of research and policy related to drink driving. In addition a survey which was mailed to a large sample of persons who were identified by snowball sampling as experts and/or workers in the defined areas. These included respondents from areas of treatment/rehabilitation, lobby groups, education/ prevention, research, policy, the alcohol industry and the mass media. The attitudes and beliefs of these key players are reported on. Among other things, a noteworthy finding is that on a number of key issues the representatives from the alcohol industry responded significantly differently to the majority of the informed community.
