Samenvatting
The SWOV has ordered the University of Groningen and of Leiden to research the use of alcohol by car drivers (see PB 29205) and the extent and nature of the publicity on alcohol and traffic safety in the mass- media (see PB 29210).The results of both reports are discussed and compared here. Recommendations given have a rather clear similarity. Main instruments to prevent drunken driving are (1) police control (2) reward- systems, (3) education and publicity, (4) cheap alternative transport and (5) alcohol free drinks.
