Despite an overall increase in alcohol-related motor vehicle fatalities, those amongst children have not been reduced. Reasons put forward to explain this include an increase in driving and drinking and driving among women. The study described was conducted to document the current extent of alcohol involvement in child fatalities and injuries in motor vehicle accidents in the US. The aspects examined included a) the rate of alcohol involvement in child motor vehicle fatalities and the characteristics of these crashes and b) changes in these accidents over the last 15 years.
