Samenvatting

The object of the study was to evaluate the blood alcohol content of drivers outside towns of more than 5000 inhabitants and the changes due to the introduction of the law governing the permissible blood alcohol content (BAC). The study also concerned the increase in the risk of personal injuries caused by alcohol consumption. The survey showed that 3% of the drivers had a high BAC (over 0.8G/1), and 1.3% a very high BAC (1.09G). The results also demonstrated that the legal measures introduced stabilized the situation but were not really effective in reducing drunken driving without strict enforcement or an active publicity campaign.
