Universities and industry are working to prevent sleepy driving. Only PERCLOS technology is really available on the market in western countries nowadays. Nevertheless, in Russia a technology has been available on the market for over ten years. Many thousand systems are in use. Based on electrodermal activity the system is able to predict that a driver is falling asleep within few minutes with a false recognition rate of 10(super-4). Without additional car sensors the system shows 1-2 false alarms in two hours. When connected to the car's CAN bus, false alarms are reduced to one in an eight hour period.
