Samenvatting

Convergence is often spoken about in the context of bringing together information technology networks and telephony systems. However it is also possible to bring together other critical business systems to help survey and document all activity on major transport systems. This article discusses the benefits of a converged network, including remote surveillance and image retrieval. A digital network is an ideal surveillance solution because of its increased resilience. It offers the added capability of multiple routes, ensuring that data re-routes around points of failure and reaches its destination intact, as opposed to the point-to-point analogue systems that have little or no resistance to failure.
