Samenvatting
Results of an empirical study of road traffic accidents in which commuters and professional drivers were involved, are reported. Since the variable "purpose of journey" had been recorded by the accident research team, it was possible to quantify the effect of the purpose of the journey on various characteristics of the accidents, or of the drivers involved in those accidents. Safety measures are given which refer particularly to the following fields (1) consumption of alcohol at the place of work (2) pressure of time on commuters and professional drivers, and (3) safety related education of truck drivers.
