Samenvatting

Information technology (IT) developments over the past 10 years have made it possible to develop more flexible transport models. The design and the building of these models, as well as their usage, are getting more and more flexible. 'TRANS' is a model to analyse flows of travellers by train, developed by QQQ Delft for NS Reizigers and Railned. 'TRANS' determines the best transport possibilities for individual travellers between origin and destination stations. Travellers are then assigned to rail lines. With 'TRANS' questions such as the following can be answered: What is the distribution of travellers between train types; What is the total amount of kilometres travelled over the entire network; Is there enough capacity to carry the travellers; and what is the average speed of travel and the average number of changes? By using several variants, the results can be compared by building a future network design. 'TRANS' can also yield forecasts. All results can be presented in the 'TRANS' Analyse database, a tool which is based on Microsoft Access. This tool is equipped with a geographical module to display flows of travellers in a map. All parts of 'TRANS' are established in such a way that an optimal exchange with the MS Office environment is possible. (A) For related work see ITRD E206398.
