Samenvatting

Statistical data shows that 6,871 people were killed on roads, and approximately 1.2 million people were injured in Japan in fiscal 2005. This factimplies that 1/100 of Japanese people are facing with traffic accidents in their daily lives every year. Even small accidents may bring unforgettable tragedies to ones who causes totally over 4 trillion yen of economic loss, which is considerably equivalent to 1/10 order of national budget. In order to reduce traffic accident casualties, it is necessary to investigate the causes that induce the accidents. For scientific approach to this problem, the effective way is to detect and study not only accidents but also incidents utilizing drive recorder. Drive recorder is capable not only to act as a witness when accident occurs, but also to utilize its valuable information to the design. In this paper, the drive recorder which can detect activation of active safety devices such as ABS and vehicle stability control is explained. Using probe vehicles implementing developed drive recorder, incident data on real road environment including short period testing at heavily snowfall season is collected. Examples of typical near-missincident related to potential danger of road structure, ABS activation situation and large side slip situation on snowy road are explained in detail.
