Samenvatting

An investigation to the fuel saving potential of forming car pools for the work trip on a regional basis is described. The formation of car pools is reviewed in traditional economic theory as an example of consumer behaviour and pricing. A simple economic behaviour model was formulated and applied to the evaluation of several general pricing schemes to increase car occupancy. Using this model the ability of the pricing schemes to reduce fuel consumption was evaluated.
