Based, essentially, on manual methods previously adopted, the pper sets out a method for locating accidents on the roads, coding them by type and including as part of the input data on punched cards, additional information relating to the accident itself and to the road conditions. Traffic volume information is used, both for specified lengths of road and also selected junctions to enable accident rates to be calculated.
