The Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) is a statutory corporation that regulates the NSW Motor Accidents Scheme. The Motor Accidents Scheme is fault-based. It provides compensation for people injured in motor vehicle accidents that were the fault of another vehicle owner or driver. The driver at fault is the person who was driving the vehicle considered most at fault in the accident. This study is based on the population of at-fault drivers from the Motor Accidents Authority's claims database. MAA claim data was merged with RTA traffic offence data to identify which at-fault drivers had a history of traffic offences. The aim was to investigate whether those drivers with a history of traffic offences differed from other drivers in terms of the number, severity and cost of the CTP claims they caused.
