Samenvatting

In line with one of the key points of focus in the Spanish Project MARTA,funded by CDTI in Spain, on sustainable mobility, this paper examines current ride sharing solutions, the barriers to ride sharing, and develops a proposal using location technology to reduce these barriers. To test effectiveness, a trial to evaluate the success of this technology is also presented. The innovative aspect of this paper is a real world trial incorporating an understanding of the barriers to ride sharing and the use of location technology to reduce these barriers. As penetration rates of location technology increase in passenger cars of the future, the solutions here canbe more readily implemented on a wider scale to enable ride sharing and contribute to sustainable mobility.
