Samenvatting

This study describes an investigation on drivers' behaviour before making a right tum at an intersection in order to clarify timing of displaying route guidance information suited to usual driving behaviour of an individual driver. The measured behavioural data on an actual road which has a total driving distance of 30,000 km includes about 220 events of braking operation when approaching specific intersections. Based on these braking behaviour data, the influence of road structure and adaptation to a driving route on the onset timing of turning on a blinker or covering a brake pedal before making a right tum and its individual differences are analyzed and evaluated. The results imply that the position of a leading vehicle has more effect on the onset timing of covering the brake pedal in comparison with the adaptation to the driving route. (Author/publisher)
