Samenvatting

An analysis of energy use by transport in Greece is carried out in order to identify methods to increase energy efficiency in the transport sector. The consumption of liquid fuels is analysed in order to examine the high energy consumption of the Greek transport sector when compared to the industrial, commercial and domestic sectors. A comparative analysis of energy use by transport in EC countries and Greece is also carried out. The energy related transport sector problems in Greece are identified as road infrastructure deficiencies, an ageing vehicle fleet, a limited and outdated railway system, inadequate use of sea transport and high use of domestic air services.
