Samenvatting

Helicopter transport of injured patients has been shown to improve mortality outcomes for severely injured patients admitted to Level I or II trauma centers compared with ground ambulance transports. This article examines fatal motor vehicle crash location in relation to the coverage area of helicopter-based emergency medical services (EMS) and is a first step toward a better understanding of the contributions of EMS and advanced automatic collision notification to improving outcomes for persons injured in motor vehicle crashes.
