Crash tests at around 50 km/h resulted in total deformations of the car and the underrider up to 90 cm and impact forces of around 20 to 30.104N. The forces are not much diminished when the commercial vehicle's weight is reduced. The necessary static strenght of the under-ride guard was found from static crush tests as 15.104N for the supporting arms of the beam and 10.104N in its centre and the side ranges. For light vehicles only a small reduction is possible.
