SATURN is one of various computer package programs which deal with urban traffic problems. There are advantages and disadvantages in capabilities of each suite of programs. SATURN assigns traffic to an urban road network from a given trip table and simulates junction delays to gain a satisfactory model. SATURN cannot develop trip table from an initial O-D survey data. However, it may develop, refine or update any of trip table by a number of most recent traffic count data in the network. SATURN program has been applied in a part of Jakarta metropolitan city with limited data. However, the output supply some reasonable and useful information which provides a better guidance to improve traffic management, traffic planning or road networks development. Some problems may appear when using SATURN in Jakarta. SATURN model adopts an exact agreement of traffic flow which is sometimes not similar with actual traffic flow characteristics in Jakarta. Therefore, in developing a model, the user should adjust the data to match with the SATURN model. Or in the opposite way, if possible, the SATURN model may be modified to match with the Jakarta traffic flow characteristics as one of the cities in Indonesia. (A)
