Samenvatting

An outline is presented for a possible demand scheduled bus (DSB) system in the new town of Columbia, in the Baltimore region. Zones were designed in the calculation for the pattern of transportation movements both within the town and with the surrounding region. three solutions for a DSB system are suggested, with or without a line haul bus system for the longer distances. It is concluded that such a computer-serviced DSB system would cause a substantial improvement in total demand for public transport in inurbane region. Especially for airports such a service is to be recommended to relieve parking difficulties and traffic congestion and to improve airport access.
