This paper describes the application of a new approach to collecting data on travel behaviour by using interactive measurement techniques. Transport behaviour is not a one-dimensional phenomenon, but rather represents a complex, interdependent system of activities, which is realised in a household context. The use of adequate empirical methods is therefore an essential prerequisite to explain individual travel behaviour, to forecast behavioural reactions to changed circumstances and thus to determine the effectiveness of different planning measures. The paper comments on the procedure of an in-depth interview survey to gain such data, and explains the processing of the recorded data.
