As long as cars continue to offer the most convenient Means of private transport, the behaviour of drivers will Remain one of the major determinants of road safety. Attempts to change the behaviour of road users have not been outstandingly successful. The alternative of adjusting the road to human behaviour is not only logical but has precedents in other spheres of our mechanized way of life which suggests that it could be a highly successful way of saving lives and reducing morbidity.
