Samenvatting

There is a growing recognition that non-motorized as well as motorized requirements must be a part of the overall intelligent transportation systems (ITS) concepts. While there are a number of innovative pedestrian treatment concepts involving the automated detection of pedestrian presence at curbs and/or their presence in the crosswalk there has been little published and little or no public focus toward the goal of better integrating these systems applications within an ITS framework. This article represents an attempt to prompt such a focus. (A)
