While great advancements in providing real-time public transport information have been made over the past several years in the U.S., guidelines andregulations governing the accessibility of these systems has lagged behind the deployment of these systems. Currently, there are no U.S. laws that explicitly address the accessibility of this type of information, which isdisseminated via media that such as dynamic message signs, mobile telephones and interactive voice response systems. The key issue regarding the accessibility of real-time information is providing the information in alternate formats so that persons with disabilities can access it in an equivalent way to persons without disabilities. For information provided visually, the audio equivalent of that information should be provided. And vice versa, if audio information is provided, the information should be provided visually. This paper will describe and summarize an approach to ensure theaccessibility of real-time public transport information systems in the U.S.
