The appropriate level of effort and sophistication of data collection methods should be selected based on the decisions being made with the system; if one is only interested in general questions then less detailed data can be collected than are required for detailed design decisions. The paper specifically discusses the data issues and aspects relevant to the NZ dTIMS implementation project and relates it to the information quality level (IQL) concept defined by Patersonand Scullion (1990). Many of the principles are, however, applicable to any PMS that has been or is being developed internationally. (Author/publisher)
