Samenvatting

It is now well established among transport planners that an efficient transport management system via the application of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) can optimize the use of available resources and facilitate safer and quicker travel. In the process of implementation, substantial amount of real-time traffic data can be generated which are useful for travel pattern analysis, policy making as well as travel route planning. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has recognized this potential and has worked towards building a central traffic and transport data hub to collect, process and store this information. The data hub forms the base of an Integrated Transport Management System which provides a baseline for a distributed and open software architecture for accessing and providing real-time traffic information from and to the various ITS deployed. The first phase of the System, traffic.smart, is based on the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), an industry standard for distributed, cross-platform and interoperable systems. This paper presents an overview of the traffic.smart and its system architecture.
