Traffic- actuated controls include semi- actuated control, full- actuated control based on either motion detection or on presence detection of vehicles, and volume- density control. For the control of individual intersections with vehicle approach speeds of less than 35 mph (56 km /hr), full- actuated control based on long inductive loop detectors for presence detection is preferred. This paper analyzes the performance of this type of control.
