With actual vehicles, the scientific examination of the behaviour of the driver faced with changes in the situation or physical factors is difficult not only because of the accident risk but mainly also because of the inadequate reproducibility of the relevant parameters. The applicability of different techniques for simulating the sighting conditions and movement of motor vehicles is discussed. For the ergonometric examination of the effectiveness of a braking distance indicator, a sighting simulation device has been conceived which can be linked with a movement simulator having several degrees of freedom.
