The impact of Australia's seat belt usage law is described in terms of: effect of the legislation on belt usage; effect on the number of injuries and fatalities; effect on the pattern of injury in Victoria; enforcement procedures and penalties (fines) for noncompliance. Statistics are cited which indicate beneficial effects of the legislation, such as substantially increased seat belt usage rates and significantly decreased driver and passenger fatalities.
