Samenvatting
The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of motorway lighting on road safety, and to study the best lighting system. Different investigations were carried out literature studies were mede into the accident pattern by night and into the influence of lighting on the accident risk and the driving behaviour. Observations and accident analysis were made on lighted and unlighted urban and rural motorways. Light technical advices were given and discussed by several experts. The opinions of different countries with respect to effective motorway lighting were presented, and the costs of motorway lighting were calculated.
