Samenvatting

Research has been done into the consequences of the introduction of traffic restraint in the town centres for the parking problems in the residential areas. Most residential areas in the outskirts of the city were built at a time when there was no real motor traffic. Now there is too little space for parking, and parking gives a lot of hindrance for residents in these areas. This is mainly caused by the fact that the town centre is partly closed for traffic or when parking is only possible for a high tariff. A solution can be found in pay-parking in the outskirt residential areas, whereby residents pay a certain fee for having a parking place for their own, and other parking is prohibited. The construction of multi storey parking garages, park and ride parks, or big parking areas at the border of the city is another possibility to prevent the parking hindrance in residential areas. These provisions should be near public transport to the centre.
