Samenvatting
This article describes the TARDIS (Traffic and Roads-Drive Integrated System) project. Special reference in this paper is made to the automatic debiting system. Sections are provided on a) the aims and specifications of the project; b) a description of developments in automatic debiting systems. This includes brief details about general equipment organisation, toll zone organisation, data exchange and security. The technical solutions which are proposed to meet electronic toll security, speed and performance requirements are also described briefly. These include the use of high speed microwave or infrared transmission, and the use of the smart card as the transaction medium.
