Samenvatting

This paper discusses three experiments that investigate ways to prevent overload of the driver in a vehicle with several support systems. Experiments 1 and 2 involve field studies dealing with the development of a Workload Estimator which allows adaptation of messages in the car to the current and foreseen workload of the driver. Experiment 3 describes a laboratory study in which workload associated with different types of in-car messages was assessed. It is concluded that adaptation of message presentation to driver workload is feasible and necessary. (A)
