Samenvatting

This article looks at various automatic policing and information systems to aid in traffic law compliance. Some systems discussed include the following: in-vehicle systems; roadside beacons; smart cards; interactive systems; vehicle-to-vehicle data transmission. The author questions whether in the future any of the above systems will prove useful, or will improve driver behavior. He suggests that it may prove useful to monitor specific groups of drivers only (e.g. repeat offenders).
