Samenvatting

This report provides a synthesis of automatic traffic enforcement systems and procedures in a range of countries worldwide. This includes primarily speed and traffic signal (red light) enforcement, but also a range of other applications. The purpose of the report is to provide guidance for the possible deployment of systems in France. Current practice in France is not oriented towards automatic enforcement systems, however, the need to improve road safety has led the French Ministry of Transport's road safety and traffic directorate (DSCR) to consider new ways to enforce traffic regulations. Because other countries have tackled road safety concerns using automated enforcement techniques, an international state-of-the-art report is needed by the French authorities before further research and investment in solutions is decided. To meet this need, the CERTU (a research consultancy within the French Ministry of Transport) has been charged with undertaking international research on this topic and has commissioned Isis to assist in this task by compiling the relevant data and producing the present report.
