Samenvatting

This article describes the design of various automatic vehicle identification systems which utilize many different sensing techniques, including infrared, optics, microwaves and radio frequency transmission. The basic concept of such a system consists of a vehicle-mounted transponder and a roadside interrogator. When a vehicle with one of these transponders comes within the range of a roadside interrogator, information would be automatically transferred from the transponder to the interrogator, thereby identifying the vehicle.
