Automation of urban buses on open roads, express tram or mini-metro is opportune seen from the processes to be automated. These three Automated Vehicle Guidance (AVG) applications form the basis for a further exercise where the applicability is being sought for the achievements made in the field of automatic vehicle guidance, in the area of collective public transport. In this respect, there exists: a summary of experiences with existing systems; an inventory of techniques that are already available today; a concise simulation to identify the improved working of interrelationships; and the effects that can be expected on the basis of two defined cases. Automated vehicle guidance in public transport provides in some applications a high quality and cost efficiency. The reason AVG systems are introduced slowly is perhaps that authorities and businesses lack initiative. (A)
