Samenvatting
This report deals with recommendations for lighting and reflex-reflectors for cycles, moped and motorcycles in the nordic countries. The use of bicycle lighting is unsatisfactory. Only 65 per cent of the cyclists have the light on when cycling in darkness. There are also technical shortcomings of the bicycle lighting system. Bicycles for sale should always be equipped with adequate lighting and reflex-reflectors; this could be achieved by guidelines for the manufacturers. Another way to increase the visibility of the two-wheelers is to attach retro-reflective materials on helmets and clothes of drivers and passengers. The report reviews the present utilisation and accident rate of the bicycle in the nordic countries.
